Utah State Math Contest 2023

The 2023 Utah State Math Contest will be held remotely.  Registration is free.  The exam will take place on March 1, 2023.

Here are some details so that you and your students know better what to expect on the day of the exam:

The contest is limited to students in grades 7-12.  Each student can take either the junior or senior exam, but not both.  Students in grades 7-9 take the junior exam, while students in grades 10-12 take the senior exam.  A student in grade 7-9 may take the senior exam if they so chose, but students in grades 10-12 must take the senior exam.

Early in the morning on March 1st, test administrators will be emailed.  The email will contain:

  1. A blank answer sheet.  Print one of these for each student.
  2. Exams.  Also print one per student.  The exam will be multiple pages, though we will try to make it as few pages as possible.  Tests do not have to be printed if individual students can access it in a different manner (electronically, on a projector, etc).  However, multiple students should not be sharing the same physical exam copy.  There will be multiple versions of both exam.
  3. Additional instructions regarding proctoring

The exam (both junior and senior versions) will be 20 questions.  The exam time limit will be 75 minutes.  Students must take the exam in a proctored setting on March 1st before 7pm MST.   The proctoring is required to be in-person, not online.  No calculators, notes, or computer access is allowed during the exam.  Exam answer sheets should be scanned an emailed before 7pm on March 1st to statemathcontest@math.utah.edu.

Please send questions to statemathcontest@math.utah.edu and we will continue to update you with any new information as the date nears.

Students must be registered by an exam administrator (teacher or equivalent) by February 15, 2023.  The exam, answer sheets, and instructions will be sent electronically to the administrator early on the day of the exam.  The expectation is the exam will be administered fairly and securely following the provided instructions on March 1st.  The exam administrators are expected to send the completed answer sheets to statemathcontest@math.utah.edu by 7:00 PM. The exams will be graded and the results announced as quickly as possible.

Registration is now closed.
