Spring & Summer 2007 project description:

This REU will begin by studying the abstract theory of group actions. We will then turn to the concrete case of the symmetric group and study the Robinson-Schensted-Knuth algorithm. Finally we will investigate new generalizations of this algorithm for other finite groups.
