Teaching Assistants and Fellows

About half of our graduate students are directly supported by our department with stipends and tuition wavers. The normal teaching load for a teaching assistant (a M.S. or M.A. candidate) is four courses, that of a teaching fellow (a Ph.D. candidate) is three courses. The academic years consists of three quarters (Fall, Winter, Spring) and runs from the end of September until the beginning of June. Stipends currently run from $11,275 to $12,500 for the academic year. Some of the stipends may be replaced by research grants of our faculty. (In that case the teaching load is of course reduced proportionally.) Additional stipends ($2,000) are often available for teaching a course or lab during the Summer.

For more details consult the Graduate Bulletin graduate bulletin, page 23 (serial page 31 of 68).
