Before diving into the world of Math, I was a Human Resource Analyst in University
Health Academics. My time with the University of Utah started back in 2014 when I
was just a wide-eyed undergrad. Turns out, I loved the place so much that I stuck
around. I started off as a University Ambassador during my student days, giving tours
and cracking cheesy scripted jokes. After graduating, I transitioned into the Office
of Advancement, working in donor relations, and eventually found my way to HR. The
University has become my home away from home, and I'm here for the long haul!
What are your duties in this position?
In my role as the Administrative Manager, I help manage all departmental and faculty
files and records, particularly those related to Retention, Promotion, and Tenure
(RPT) issues, overseeing the collection and preparation of materials for submission
to the administration for review. Additionally, my role handles faculty hiring processes,
sabbatical leaves, staff work assignments, and personnel record maintenance. The
role also involves working with legal offices for visa-related matters, office assignments,
visitor appointments, faculty meetings, and the collection of course evaluations.
Overall, this role ensures the smooth functioning of the department by efficiently
managing administrative tasks and facilitating communication among various stakeholders.
What do you enjoy most about working in the Math Department?
Being a part of the Mathematics Department has been a refreshing shift for me, especially
after a period of full remote work. Returning to the office has brought not just
a change in scenery but a vibrant social environment that I truly appreciate. The
collective intelligence and impressive accomplishments of the faculty and students
make each day engaging and fulfilling. Transitioning from working solely with staff
and students to collaborating with faculty has been a positive and enriching experience.
I'm eager to continue learning, contributing, and supporting their research, teaching,
and efforts in the diverse fields within the Mathematics Department.
Tell us about your degrees.
I received my Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion and Education from the University
of Utah in 2017, and then recently finished my Master of Business Administration this
past July. I have a passion for holistic health and community well-being and these
two degrees allowed me to merge my interest in community health with essential leadership
skills. Throughout my academic journey I've cultivated a unique blend of health expertise
and business acumen, laying the grounwork for my commitment to making a positive impact
on both individual wellness and broader community health.
What are three things you like to do in your spare time?
In my downtime, I'm all about staying active and trying new things. I've got a three-year-old
who keeps me on my toes and brings a ton of joy. I have spent the last couple years
training for a bodybuilding competition and love the challenge and discipline that
it has brought. I anticipate another year or so until I feel ready to get on stage.
I also recently started playing competitive beach sand volleyball. Originally, I
joined primarily to make new friends and ended up falling in love with it and have
been traveling for competitions, the most recent of which was in Florida. I love
being outdoors, especially by the beach - I just can't get enough of the environment.
Overall it's a mix of sports, fitness, and quality time with my kiddo that fills up
my free hours.
