Text: Calculus,Varberg and Purcell, eight edition, Prentice Hall.

In this semester we will cover parts of Chapters 13-17.

The course will cover the following topics: Vectors, vector valued functions of one variable, derivatives of fucntions of several variables, integrals of scalar and vector valued functions of several variables.

There will be four in-class examinations, the lowest score of which will be dropped, and a comprehensive final examination. The exams will have a separate page of formulas and other informaton when necessary; no other notes, texts or aids may be used. There are NO make-up exams. Homework will be collected and partially graded. It is the students responsiblity to find correct solutions for all homework problems.

Grades will be based on the best three hour exam scores, homework, and the final exam. Hour exams will comprise 60% of your grade, homework 10%, and the final 30%. Letter grades will be assigned as follows:

A 91-100% A- 89-90%

B+ 87-88% B 81-86% B- 79-80%

C+ 77-78% C 71-76% C- 69-70%

D+ 67-68% D 61-66% D- 59-60% E less than 59%.

Students are urged to attend the tutorial sessions which are given in the Rushing Math Center. Tutors will be available starting Tuesday,January 18.The tutoring center is open Monday-Thursday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and Friday 8:00 AM-6:00 PM. The tutoring center will be closed on weekends and University holidays. Tutor's schedules will be posted on the web and outside the tutoring center office.In addition to drop in tutoring, the tutoring center offers group tutoring sessions(by request). If five or more students from the same course are interested in group sessions at a particular time, the tutoring center will arrange for a tutor to hold a group session.

Students should come to the office of the instructor during office hours with any questions.

Students are also urged to attend the undergraduate mathematics colloquium. The colloquium features mathematical topics of general interest, presented in an informal and elementary way.
