Course Description

We will be continuing where you left off in 1st-semester Calculus. We will expand the class of functions with which you can use derivatives and integrals, expand your repertoire of integration techniques, learn how to handle indeterminate forms when calculating limits and improper forms when evaluating integrals, learn how to analyze and evaluate infinite series, learn how to do calculus in the polar coordinate system, and touch on differential equations. In the end you should have a full understanding of the basic concepts and techniques of single-variable calculus, and be ready to tackle multi-variable calculus in your next course.

Textbook

Calculus, 9th edition, by Varberg, Pucell, and Rigdon

Please buy this book, and read it! It is more concise and easier to follow than many Calculus books, and my lectures will be following it closely. In addition, I will be assigning homework problems from the book, and you will be expected to know the material in the book for the exams.

Grading

There will be 12 homework assignments due in class. Check the above schedule for due dates. Homeworks constitute 30% of the final grade. There will be two midterm exams, each accounting for 20% of the final grade, and a final exam accounting for 30% of the final grade.

Resources

The math department's tutoring center has tutors available if you want to drop in for extra help in this class. They are located in the T. Benny Rushing Mathematics Center (adjacent to the LCB and JWB). Check their website for the hours when tutors will be there.
