Text: Abstract Algebra, Third edition by I. N. Herstein

Prerequisites: Math 5310 or the equivalent.


Course Description This course is a continuation of the introduction to the main topics of abstract Algebra. We will study the main properties of rings and fields and their connections with other branches of mathematics.

Grading: There will be weekly homework asignments, two in-class midterms, and a comprehensive final exam. The homework will count for 30% of your grade, the midterms for 40%, and the final exam for 30%. The lowest two homework grades will be dropped.
