There will be weekly homework (20%), two midterms (25% each), and a final exam (30%). There will also be an extra credit quiz (3%) based on ungraded problems I will give from the appendix of the book, which covers prerequisite material. No makeup exams will be given after a test, and before a test only in extraordinary circumstances. Either way, please talk with me beforehand. See the course calendar for the homework and test schedule.Calculators, Cellphones
Calculators will be allowed during tests. However, answers given without work or justification will not be given credit. All cellphones must be turned off during class, and may not be used as calculators during tests.Other Comments
Occasionally, I will send out an email to everyone in the class using the Umail email address you have registered with the online Campus Information System. [Look under 'Student Profile']. Make sure this email is up to date, and check it often.Tutoring
Free tutoring is offered at the T. Benny Rushing Mathematics Center, which is located between the JWB and LCB buildings. If you need help on a problem, ask the tutor the ideas and concepts involved first, and if you are still stuck, a demonstration of the solution second. Your goal should be the ability to do the problems on your own. By doing so you will succeed on the tests, which account for most of your grade.Students with Disabilities
The University of Utah seeks to provide equal access to its programs, services and activities for people with disabilities. If you will need accommodations in the class, reasonable prior notice needs to be given to the Center for Disability Services, 162 Olpin Union Building, 581-5020 (V/TDD). CDS will work with you and the instructor to make arrangements for accommodations. All written information in this course can be made available in alternative format with prior notification to the Center for Disability Services.
