Department of Mathematics Undergraduate Scholarships
This page describes the scholarships administered by the
Department of Mathematics at the University of Utah. Each scholarship is
briefly described below. Unless otherwise noted, all scholarships
listed are available to entering, continuing, and transfer
students majoring (or intending to major) in math. There is a single
application which automatically qualifies each applicant for all
relevant scholarships.

Mathematics Department Undergraduate Scholarship Application
(in pdf format).
The selection criterion unless otherwise noted is based on the following
elements:
-
Grade Point Average
with special emphasis on math classes courses taken and the grades
achieved in them.
- Two letters of recommendation. For continuing students, it
is strongly recommended that at least one letter be from a UU mathematics
professor.
- ACT scores for
entering and first year students.
-
A brief statement of interest.
Since some scholarships are explicitly need-based,
any need-related information should be included in the statement of interest.
Completed applications may be turned into the Mathematics Department
Headquarters, located in JWB 233. They may also be mailed (care of the
Undergraduate Scholarship Committee) to the address listed on the bottom
of this page. The application deadline is
March 15, 2002. No exceptions will be made. Scholarship
winners will be announced by mid-April.
Any further questions may be directed to individual members of the scholarship
committee: Henryk Hecht (chair), 581-8166, hecht@math.utah.edu;
Peter Trapa, 585-7671, ptrapa@math.utah.edu; or
