Smooth Finite Elements Based on Clough-Tocher Triangle Split Triangles

by Peter Alfeld and Larry Schumaker.

Numerische Mathematik, to appear.

Abstract

Macro elements of smoothness Cr are constructed on Clough-Tocher triangle splits for all r >= 0. In contrast to earlier constructions, our elements depend only on natural derivative information. Numerical Experiments on Hermite interpolation with the new elements are included.
