*************** ANNOUNCEMENT ********************** * University of Utah Mathematical Biology Seminar * *************************************************** Wednesday, May 26 at 4pm in INSCC 110 Speaker: Frithjof Lutscher Title: Modeling of fish schooling with Reaction Transport Equations Abstract: Schools of fish are formed by moving individuals who align their body axes (i.e. direction of movement). Simple models based on transport equations in one and two spatial dimensions are presented and investigated. Comparison to earlier alignment models is made. It is shown how alignment can lead to survival in situations where a non-aligning population vanishes, for example due to predation.
