*************** ANNOUNCEMENT ********************** * University of Utah Mathematical Biology Seminar * *************************************************** Wednesday, December 2 at 3:20 pm in JWB 208 Speaker: David Blair (U of U Biology) Title: Mutational and Structural Studies of the Bacterial Flagellar Motor Abstract: Many species of bacteria swin by rotating helical filaments, each of which is driven by a tiny (50 nanometer diameter) rotary motor in their membrane. This motor obtains power from the membrane gradient of protons; its mechanism is not understood. I will describe recent studies of the protein components that are critical for torque generation. Recent advances include our first glimpses of the atoms of the motor.
