Time and place: M,T,W,F, 2:00-2:50 PM in JTB 130
Text: Calculus, 8th Ed., D. Varberg, E. J. Purcell and S. E. Rigdon
Course Description: Mathematics 1210 is an introduction to differential and integral
calculus. Limits, derivatives, and integrals will be developed as tools to analyze the
properties of functions. Applications include motion and rates of change, optimization and
approximation methods, differential equations, and the calculation of areas, volumes, and
lengths.
Homework: In general, homework will be assigned every meeting and will be collected the
following meeting (see the tentative schedule.)
Please do the problems in the assigned order; write clearly the problem number and the page
number. Please staple your homework.
Late homework will not be accepted, except under special circumstances.
Each homework is worth 10 points.
Quizzes: There will be 11 weekly quizzes, between 10-20 minutes each, held on Fridays, at the
end of the class time (see the tentative schedule.)
The material covered by each quiz will be announced in class.
The quizzes are closed notes, closed books and no calculators.
Each quiz is worth 10 points. The lowest quiz grade will be dropped.
Exams: There will be 2 exams during the semester and one final exam.
All are written exams and will be held in class (JTB 130).
All the exams are closed books, closed notes and no calculators.
The final exam will be comprehensive with some emphasis on the material not yet tested in the
first two in-class exams.
