Course information
(snatched from Wikipedia) : Linear algebra is the branch of mathematics concerning vector spaces, often finite or countably infinite dimensional, as well as linear mappings between such spaces. Such an investigation is initially motivated by a system of linear equations in several unknowns. Such equations are naturally represented using the formalism of matrices and vectors.
Linear algebra is central to both pure and applied mathematics. For instance, abstract algebra arises by relaxing the axioms of a vector space, leading to a number of generalizations. Functional analysis studies the infinite-dimensional version of the theory of vector spaces. Combined with calculus, linear algebra facilitates the solution of linear systems of differential equations. Techniques from linear algebra are also used in analytic geometry, engineering, physics, natural sciences, computer science, and the social sciences (particularly in economics).
Prerequisites: C or better in (MATH 2210 OR MATH 1260 OR MATH 1280 OR MATH 1321 OR MATH 1320).

Textbook: Strang, Gilbert, Introduction to Linear Algebra, fourth edition.
Exams: There will be exams throughout the semester, one every approximately four weeks.
Homework: There will be homework due every week. It will generally be due every Friday, and will be posted online. The lowest homework will be dropped. Problems will be assigned directly from the book. Partial credit may be given for homework assignments. Homework will generally not be accepted late.
Final Exam: There will be a final exam. It will be on Friday, April 26, 2013, at 10:30 am-12:30 pm.
Grading: Exams 40%, Homework 40%, Final Exam 20%
Office Hours: Mondays and Fridays at 9:30AM-10:30AM in JWB 125.
