Homework and class participation

Solving problems is the only way to learn mathematics.  You will only benefit from the course if you invest time and effort in the homework exercises.  Homework will be assigned each class meeting and will be due the following class.  The first hour of each class meeting will be devoted to a discussion of the current homework assignment.  I will evaluate your homework in several possible ways.  I may call on students to discuss homework problems on the blackboard.  Because your class participation in these homework discussions is a part of your course grade, class attendance is mandatory.  I may on occasion give quizzes containing one or more problems directly from the homework.  Or I may collect the homework.
