Optimal structures and the rationality of biological "designs"

Andreij Cherkaev

Department of Mathematics, University of Utah

Abstract: The talk discusses the applicability of methods of structural optimization to explain the rationality of morphology of living organisms. Specifically, we address the problems of reconstructing of the unknown goal functional from the known optimal solution and optimization of a design loaded by an unknown or variable load. The talk is based on the join research with Seubpong Leelavanichkul and Elena Cherkaev.
