Homework #1 (due August 30th): First find my office. On a piece of paper write your first and last name, student ID number, and anything about yourself so that I may get to know you better as a student. I would like to know what you want to get out of this class, contact information such as e-mail or phone number, why you are taking this class, any weaknesses you think that you might have in general as a student or in particular with mathematics, favorite kind of candy or cookie, or what you think that I can do as an instructor to help you learn and perform better in my class and as a student. Other suggestions for things that you can tell me are: your age, do you work, where did you grow up, what other classes you are taking, a moment or story about you that defines or changed you as a person, why did you decide to go to school, what is your favorite subject in school, what are your hobbies, do you like sports, or what did your favorite teachers do that made you like them. Students cannot turn this homework in class. You must turn this in to me in my office, and if I am not there you may slip it under my door. The purpose of this assignment is that I will know you better as a student, and when you need help you will know where my office is located if you need to meet with me. Remark: unless otherwise stated this will be the only homework assignment that is not to be collected in class and that is not due on Friday.
