    Prerequisite

Math ACT score of 23 or grade of C or better in MATH 1010.

    Textbook

The textbook for the course is The Basic Practice of Statistics, 5th edition by David Moore. The book companion (not required) contains quizzes, some solutions, an e-version of the book, and some useful applets.

    Exams, Homeworks etc.

  • Homeworks and webwork assignments count for 30% of the grade. To access the webwork assignments, you need to first register for the class and you should get the username and password in your umail account in one day.
I recommend that you do not change your username and password (even if you forget you can always check your umail account).

  • Two midterms worth 15% each . These will be in class exams on February 22 and April 5 respectively. The location and time is the same as the lecture.

  • Final is worth 40% of your grade . The final exam will be held on May 3 . It will be in JWB 335 from 6.00-8.00pm .

Here is a zip file containing Excel files with data for all the exercises and examples in the book. It may help speed up doing homework.
NO make-up tests or late homework.
Show all your work in your homework and exam solutions, not just the answers.
Do go over your homework after it is returned to you.
If you still don't know why an answer is wrong, ask about it.
    You MUST staple your homework.
Write your name on each page and number the pages (e.g. 1/3, 2/3, and 3/3).

We will be using Excel for computations. You will need it for homework.
Excel is available in your university accounts. Please check this is the case!
No prior knowledge of Excel is required. You will learn it as part of this course.
As for computers which have Excel, there are five Macs in the lab of the
    T. Benny Rushing Mathematics Center (adjacent to the LCB and JWB).
The Suns have OpenOffice and StarOffice, which is compatible with Excel for
the most part. Here is a link to the various computer labs around campus.

    GRAPHING CALCULATORS ARE ALLOWED.
Formula sheet for the final This will be provided during the final.
Some practice problems for the final. Note that problems from all sections are not covered here. I put problems only from sections which I consider more difficult than the rest.
