Information about Test 3
- Reminder: There is a test on Wednesday, November 4. It will take
the full 50 minutes and covers Chapter 3, Section 5 and Chapter 7, Section 1.
- The test
consists almost entirely of word problems.
- As usual, you will need to give both exact answers
and decimal approximations. You will need a calculator that
can compute logarithmic functions and exponentials.
- You should be familiar with the following topics:
- interest compounded n times per year, interest compounded continuously,
- exponential growth and decay (main examples were population growth and
radioactive decay) --- Here you must be able to find the formula. That is,
given that y = y_0*e^kt and some additional data, be able to solve for k.
(as in exercises 37 and 45).
- logarithmic models (not discussed in class but present
in the homework)
- logistic models
- solving systems of equations algebraically (using substitution)
and the geometric meaning of this problem.
