Course Contents: Functions, Lines, Slope, Polynomials,
Rational Functions, Exponential and Logarithmic Functions, Systems of
Linear Equations, Systems of Linear Inequalities, Matrices and Determinants,
Induction, Sequences, Binomial Theorem, Combinations as covered in
Chapters P, 1-3, 7-9 of Larson and Hostetler.
Homework: Homework will not be collected or graded.
Of course, the tests and quizzes
will be based primarily on the homework assignments
and the examples from the book and from class.
Tests and Quizzes: There will be five 50-minute tests
and six 30-minute quizzes, according to the schedule below.

- Quiz 1 --- September 16
- Quiz 2 --- September 23
- Test 2 --- September 30
- Quiz 3 --- October 14
- Quiz 4 --- October 21
- Quiz 5 --- October 28
- Test 3 --- November 4
- Quiz 6 --- November 11
- Test 4 --- November 18
- Test 5 --- December 2
Of the 5 tests, your best 4 will count for 40% of your grade.
Of the 6 quizzes, your best 5 will count for 30% of your grade.
There will
be NO MAKEUP TESTS OR QUIZZES.
Please note that the purpose of dropping scores is to provide
reasonable accommodation in the event that you must miss a test due to illness,
family difficulties, car trouble, a sister's wedding, etc.
In the unlikely event that you have
excellent reasons for missing more than one test or
more than one quiz, additional weight
may be added to the final exam.
Cumulative Final Exam will be given
Friday, December 18, 12:30 - 2:30
and counts for 30% of your grade. This Exam is a Departmental
exam and is given to ALL sections of Math 1050.
Students are responsible for all material presented in class,
including announcements about changes in course procedures.
