Math 2210 Section 1 Syllabus (Calculus III)
The course meets Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:30 to 8:20 in LCB 121.
Text: Calculus, Varberg, Purcell and Rigdon, 8th edition.
Office Hours: Mondays 12:00-1:00, Tuesdays 11:00-12:00, Thursdays 3:00-4:00 or by appointment.
Course Outline: We will cover Chapters 13-17. We will follow the same order as in the book, but we will cover some of Chapters 13 and 14 simultaneously.
Tests: There will be three tests and a comprehensive final exam. The first will be on February 10, the second will be March 7, and the third will be April 7. The comprehensive final exam will be on April 25 from 8:00 to 10:00.
Homework: There will be approximately 8 assignments to be completed online through Calculus on the Web (COW). COW can be found by visiting the website www.math.temple.edu and choosing the COW option, or by linking to it via my homepage. You may want to bookmark this site. These assignments will count towards your final grade. I will also assign problems from the end of each section of the text. I will usually not collect these assignments, and I will let you know if I am going to collect them. Answers for many of the odd-numbered exercises are in the back of the book. Successful completion of these problems is an excellent preparation for the tests, and is essential for gaining understanding of the concepts of the course.
Grading: The final counts for 25% of the overall grade. Each of the other tests is 20%, and the homework makes up the remaining 15%.
Make-up Policy: If you miss a test, your grade on that test will be the same as the grade that you get on the final exam. For example, if you miss the first test and get an 85 on the final, you will get an 85 for the first test when the grades are calculated at the end of the semester.
