Group: COLIN LEE MCNABB Title: Chemical Pathways Abstract: In chemistry, the reactions that add up to give a net reaction ar= e referred to as a pathway. The pathway for a biochemical reaction can be d= etermined using a system of linear equations. Reactions can use large, unkn= own numbers of certain substrates. We can use the stoichiometric number of = certain atoms and molecules to solve for these unknown quantities and help = map out how many times individual reactions must occur to give the desired = net reaction. This technique has been helpful in understanding how certain = aspects of the human body work. In my project I would like to look specific= ally at the oxidation of glucose into carbon dioxide and water, the basis o= f human metabolism.
