Dear Class, The maple 2015 instructions apply to maple 9.5, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 with obvious changes to command lines, e.g., change "maple2015" to "mapleV12" or "mapleV18". To use maple 2015 on the local unix systems, invoke it by command line xmaple2015 & To use maple 2015 with the classic window interface [no java], invoke it by the command line xmaple2015 -cw & After starting maple 2015, set the OPTIONS on the tool menu as follows: Display --> Input display --> Maple Notation Display --> Output display --> 2D-Math Notation Interface --> Default format for new worksheets --> Worksheet Apply Globally When working with maple 2015, you should see red text on input and blue text on output. If your typing is black, then exit Maple, start it again, and look for a change. If no change, then repeat the steps above, assuming a typo. The linalg package is supposed to work in maple 2015. Loading of package LinearAlgebra and then loading package linalg should make the commands of both available. Example 1: A:=<<1,0> | <2,3>>; # Enter cols of matrix A b:=<-1,1>; A.b; # multiply matrix A against column vector b. det(A); # No answer, needs linalg package Determinant(A); # No answer, needs LinearAlgebra package linalg[det](A); # works LinearAlgebra[Determinant](a); # also works Example 2: with(linalg): # Depreciated, still in maple 17. C:=matrix([[1,2],[0,3]]);# In textbooks. Enter C by rows. eigenvects(C); Eigenvectors(C); # No answer, error message Example 3: with(LinearAlgebra): F:=Matrix([[1,2],[0,3]]);# Enter F by rows. Eigenvectors(F); Example 4: with(LinearAlgebra):with(linalg): A:=<<1,0> | <2,3>>; # Enter A by cols. Eigenvectors(A);Determinant(A); eigenvects(A);det(A); To set up maple 2015 on linux, windows and Mac OS/X systems, follow the advice above. To run the classic window interface under 32-bit windows, launch the application "cwmaple" located in the win.bin subdirectory of the maple 2015 installation in Program Files. The bare-bones terminal interface maple 2015 is launched on a unix system as follows: 33 sunbeam> maple |\^/| Maple 2015 (X86 64 LINUX) ._|\| |/|_.
