Transcript of maple tutorial in LCB 115 on Tuesday, 15 Jan 2013 Opening remarks How to login to the math systems in LCB 115 and in the Math Center Paper document: http://www.math.utah.edu/~gustafso/s2013/maple-web-help/lcb115lecture/classAccounts.txt How to start xmaple, from the APPLICATIONS menu bar item. APPLICATIONS ==> Mathematics ==> xmaple Maple Setup: Use TOOLS ==> OPTIONS ==> DISPLAY and set the "Input Display" to "Maple Notation". Use Tools ==> OPTIONS ==> INTERFACE and set "Default format ..." to WORKSHEET. Then "APPLY GLOBALLY" and exit xmaple. On startup, xmaple will have the worksheet interface with RED input and BLUE output. How to exit xmaple: Hit the go-away box in the upper right corner of the xmaple window. Answering questions: Don't save the worksheet(s) until you understand enough to know why and where. Calculator functions. We worked by mouse copying and re-typing the examples under the title "calculator functions" in the following web page (html, text display): http://www.math.utah.edu/~gustafso/s2013/maple-web-help/ Discussed was the keys F3 and F4 for split and join of execution groups in the maple interface. We also discussed the edit keys, which can be found at the top of the "calculator functions" page. Most of the maple session was spent on more topics from the Utah Maple Web Help page. Contents: Introduction to Maple Computer Lab Details Calculator Functions Plotting Solving an Equation Functions in Maple Calculus Derivative and Integral Differential Equations Linear Algebra Engineering Functions, Laplace, Fourier There was a discussion of printing rules, and where to print. This info is found in the "Computer Lab Details" above. Maple lab 1 was discussed briefly, with some details about quadratic equations and factoring. Three examples were made from Example 1 in the lab, by mouse-copying and then editing the numbers to match the lab problems. We quit after 45 minutes, in order to keep the 50-min schedule for the tutorial.
