We will cover chapters 7-12 and 18 of the text, developing ideas and techniques of the differential and integral calculus in broader contexts. The course will begin with a study of transcendental functions and their inverses, then move on to sophisticated techniques of integration, indeterminate forms, infinite series, conic sections, polar coordinates, ending with an introduction to differential equations. |
| Homework: |
Unless otherwise announced, homework
will be assigned each Wednesday and will be due the
following Wednesday in class. The homework
assignments will be posted on the web page on or before
the day it is assigned. Each homework will vary from
5-15 questions per section, with only one or two
questions being graded (those questions will be chosen at
random). Late submissions and submissions outside class
will not be accepted. In calculating the final grade,
one homework assignment will be dropped. The assigned homework is the minimum that should be done by the student. It is the student's responsibility to do as many problems necessary to completely learn and understand the material. |
| Tests: |
There will be three tests during the semester.
Please refer to the tentative course schedule for the dates and scopes
of these tests. Alternative test dates will only be permitted for truly extraordinary reasons. If you know ahead of time you will be unable to make any of the tests at the scheduled time and wish to take the test at a different time, you must request alternative arrangements (which may or may not be granted) prior to the test date. Once the test date is past, no make-up will be allowed except for truly extraordinary reasons. |
| Final: |
The final examination will be
comprehensive. It will be held on Tuesday, December 14,
8-10 am in our regular classroom. |
| Grading: |
Your grade will be determined according to: Homework
is 35%, Exams are 35%, Final Exam is 30% |
| Tentative Course Schedule: |
All dates are indicated on the
Tentative Course Schedule and are subject to changes,
especially those in the latter part of the semester.
Test dates will be finalized and announced in class and
on the web page one or two weeks prior to each test. It is your responsibility to keep yourself updated on the finalized test dates. |
