Prerequisite: Math ACT score of 28 or grade of C or better in Math 1050 and 1060.
Text: Calculus 8th Edition by Varberg, Purcell, and Rigdon
Contents: Math 1210 is an introduction to differential and integral calculus. Limits, derivatives, and integrals will be developed as tools to analyze the properties of function. Applications include motion and rates of change, optimization and approximation methods, differential equations, and the calculation of areas, volumes, and lengths.
Homework: Unless otherwise announced, homework will be assigned each Wednesday and due the following Wednesday in class. The homework assignments will be posted on the web page on or before the day it is assigned. Late submissions and submissions outside class will not be accepted. In the calculation of the final grade, one homework assignment will be dropped.
Tests: There will be three 50-minute tests during the semester. Please refer to the tentative course schedule for the dates and scopes of these tests. Alternative test dates will only be permitetd for truly extraordinary reasons. If you know ahead of time you will be unable to make any of the tests at the scheduled time and wish to take the test at a different time, you must request alternative arrangements (which may or may not be granted depending on your reasons) prior to the test date. Once the test date is past, no make-ups will be allowed.
Tentative Course Schedule: All dates are indicated on the Tentative Course Schedule and are subject to changes, especially those in the latter part of the semester. Test dates will be finalized and announced in class one or two weeks prior to each test. It is your responsibility to keep yourself updated on the finalized test dates.
Grading: Your grade will be determined according to: Homework is 40%, Exams are 35%, Final Exam is 25%
Final: The final examination will be comprehensive. It will be held on Tuesday, May 4, 8 - 10 AM in our classroom.

Mathematics Tutoring Center: The Mathematics Tutoring Center offers free, drop-in tutoring to students enrolled in Math 1210, among others. The tutoring center will open Tuesday, January 20, and the hours are: 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM Monday-Thursday and 8:00 AM -6:00 PM on Friday. The tutoring center is closed on weekends, University holidays, and for finals.
