# Partial Differential Equations for Engineering Students

Textbook — "Partial Differential Equations (with Fourier Series and Boundary Value Problems)", by Nakhlé H. Asmar, Second Edition. The author provides a student solutions manual in his webpage (http://www.math.missouri.edu/~nakhle/).

Course Description — The course is a basic introduction to partial differential equations in two or fewer space variables. Main topics: Fourier series and boundary-value problems for the wave, heat, and Laplace equations, separation of variables, Bessel functions, and Fourier transform. We will cover sections 1.1-1.2, 2.1-2.4, 3.1-3.8, 4.1-4.4, and 7.1-7.4 of the textbook. A tentative schedule can be found hereat http://www.math.utah.edu/~docampo/math3150/syllabus.html.

Grading — There will be weekly homework assignments, three in-class midterms, and a comprehensive final exam. The homework will count for 20% of the grade, the midterms for 50%, and the final exam for 30%.

Midterms and Final — Exams take place in MEB 2325.

Homework Assignments — Weekly assignments and their due dates will be posted on the website. Homework must be turned in at the beginning of class. Late homework is not accepted.
