Grade Distribution for Midterm 1
The preceding is the histogram for the grade distribution
of Midterm #1 in Math 5010-1 (Spring 2005).
Basic Statistics |
Average
| 73.90244% |
Standard Deviation |
28.5235% |
Median
| 80% |
The high average is due to the high number of
B's and A's. Here is a more careful break-down:
15 people (out of 41) scored 100%.
19 people (out of 41) received an "A" (86% or more).
5 people (out of 41) scored a "B" (76% to 85%).
1 person (out of 41) scored a "C" (61% to 75%).
Although it is too early to be sure, a "poor" score
is probably something around or below
"60% or less (16 people)."
My advice to them is to drop
the course unless they are absolutely convinced
that their subsequent grades will be higher.
Be warned that the level of difficulty of the
exams will not slacken. I hope that you can use this
advice wisely, and to your best advantage.
