Complex Variables: Course Syllabus

Instructor: Davar Khoshnevisan (Contact Information | Office Hours)
Time/Place: MWF 9:00-10:10 am: LCB 222.
Course Description: This is a standard first course in complex analysis. We cover topics such as: Analytic functions, Cauchy's theorem, applications to sums and integrals, and conformal maps. If there is enough time, then we might also cover analytic continuation and applications to partial differential equations.
Text: Complex Variables, Joseph L. Taylor. Download for free (in pdf) here. This is the required textbook. A good second book is Basic Complex Variables, J.E. Marsden & M.J. Hoffman, W.H. Freeman & Co., 1999 (third ed).

Note that the posted hours are 10 minutes longer than the official announcement. This makes up for the fact that there will be no lectures during the week of July 27th.
Grading: Weekly assignments (50% total); one midterm (25%; Jun 24); and one final exam (25%; Aug 5).
Homework: Posted weekly; see below.
