Prerequisites Math 1010 (Intermediate Algebra) or equivalent.

Course Description This is an introductory semester on quantitative reasoning, and is a Quantitative Reasoning B Course. The main objective of this course is to discuss and well understand quantitative/mathematical/logical reasoning, and to learn some rudimentary statistical methods and ideas.

To sign up for this course, you must register for a Friday section (or "lab"). This automatically registers you for the main lectures as well.

The main lectures cover the theory and discuss case studies. The lab sessions are devoted to answering questions, and going over some of the assigned homework problems.

Grading There are weekly assignments, randomly-scattered pop quizzes (MWF), two midterms, and a comprehensive final exam.
  • The lowest two homework scores are dropped.
  • The midterm exams are not comprehensive.
  • The pop quizzes cover the material not covered in the previous quizzes; the lowest two quiz scores are dropped.
The maximum possible number of points for each category are

Pluses and minuses are given in accord with individual performance.

Makeup Policy Late assignments are not graded. There are no makeup tests and quizzes except cases that are in accord with the standard bylaws of the university (see "ADA" and the disclaimer below).

Exam Dates Exams are held in the main lecture hall.
  • Midterm 1. Wednesday June 4 (10 a.m.-11 a.m.)
  • Midterm 2. Monday July 7 (10 a.m.-11 a.m.)
  • Final. Friday August 1 (10 a.m.-12 p.m.)
