Week 14
  • Finish reading Chapters 19 (simulation), and read Chapter 20 (expected value).

  • Read Chapters 18 and your lecture notes on this chapter. Read Chapter 19.

    • In #18.17, someone claims that p=0.15. To test this, we have taken a SRS of 1500 adults, and found that 12.5% of the adults in our sample jog. Carefully test the theory that p=0.15, and write down all of your analysis clearly and legibly.

    • For the illiteracy-vs-Murder Data shown in the lectures we know the following: The average illiteracy rate is 1.17 with an SD of about 0.61. The average murder rate was 7.37 with an SD of approximately 3.69. If a certain state's illiteracy rate is 1.3, predict their murder rate.

    • Start preparing for Midterm #2 (It will cover Chapters 12-16; Check out the "Review" section in your book, pages 328-341.)

    • The GRE verbal scores between October 1, 1989 and September 30, 1992 averaged to 497 with a standard deviation (SD) of 115 points. What percentage of all GRE-takers in the said period scored between 400 and 600 points? (Show your work including the normal curves, etc.)
