About

In undergrad I was a mathematics major at the University of Utah.   I started out in EE, but quickly learned that I enjoyed the math and science but disliked the trade school approach.   For my last three of five years I tutored in my university’s drop-in tutoring center.   I can thank that experience for getting me through school. I felt a connection to my department and university that I otherwise would not have felt.   Moreover, I met faculty that I would later do projects with and I ultimately paved a path which led to graduate studies.

I spent my second senior year in undergrad applying to Peace Corps and shortly after graduating went to Ghana where I taught mathematics to high school age kids.   It was quite an experience.   Alas I ended up coming back after only 14 out of 27 months.   Family issues.   I finished my service, in a manner of speaking, by becoming a VISTA and working at (managing) a nonprofit near where my family lived (just in case things got bad again).

Most recently I’ve returned to the University of Utah, and I am studying applied mathematics in the math-bio program.   I enjoy working on models that lead to computationally intensive problems or projects, and prefer to tackle them with the aid of MATLAB and Maple.
