About
In undergrad I was a mathematics major at the University of Utah. I started out in EE, but quickly learned that I loved the math and science but hated the trade school approach. For my last three of five years I tutored in my university’s drop-in tutoring center. I can thank that experience for getting me through school. I felt a connection to my department that I otherwise would not have felt. Moreover I met faculty that I would later do projects with and I ultimately paved a path which led to graduate studies.
I spent my second senior year in college applying to Peace Corps and shortly after graduating went to Ghana to teach mathematics to high school age kids. It was quite an experience. Alas I ended up coming back after only 14 out of 27 months. Family issues. I finished my service, in a manner of speaking, by becoming a VISTA and working at a nonprofit near where my family lived (just in case things got bad again).
Most recently I’ve gone back to the University of Utah, and I am studying for a PhD while working as a TA in the mathematics department. My interest in mathematics centers around applied topics. Specifically I’m enthralled by mathematical applications to determining behavior on an ecological level.
