Text:

Version 2 of Joe Taylor's notes, Foundations of Analysis

Course:

We will cover Chapters 7-10 of the notes. We will take a brief (5 min) break halfway through each class. The second half of Thursday's class will devoted to working on homework problems. Come prepared to present your solutions on the board.

Homework:

There will be weekly homework assignments. You should be ready to present solutions to the homework problems in class on Thursday. Written homework is due Fridays at 3pm. You can either submit homework in person or put it in my mailbox. You are encouraged to work together to solve the homework problems, but you must write up and submit individual solutions. Late homework may be submitted for half credit for up to one week past the due date. See also Guidelines for Written Assignments.

Midterm Exams:

There will be two midterms. The midterms will be 50 minutes long, held the second half of a Thursday class.

Final Exam:

There will be a mandatory final exam on Monday, May 4 from 8am-10am. The final exam will be comprehensive. The final will be in the usual classroom.

Quality of Work:

You are expected to conduct yourself in a professional manner. This includes classroom etiquette, email correspondence, and written submissions (homeworks, quizzes and exams). See also Guidelines for Written Assignments.

Anything that you submit should be neat, legible, and clearly written.

Grading:

Homework (including in-class presentation) 40%
Midterm 2 @ 15%
Final 30%
