__Calculus with Differential Equations__, 9th edition, Varberg, Purcell, Rigdon, Prentice Hall

## Prerequisites:

Proficiency in the material from Calculus I (Chapters 0-5 of the text) is expected.## Course:

The course will cover Chapters 6-10 of the text. This material includes techniques of integration, geometric applications of the integral, numerical approximation, improper integrals, logarithmic and exponential functions, differential equations, infinite series, and conic sections.## Assignments:

Assignments will be posted on the assignment page at least one week in advance. Students are responsible for monitoring the webpage for these assignments, they may not be mentioned in class. Homework should be submitted prior to the start of class on the due date. No assignments will be accepted after class begins. You are encouraged to discuss the homework problems with each other, but everyone must submit their own solutions.## Quizzes:

Each week there will be a short in-class quiz, exam weeks excepted. No makeup quizzes will be given.## Midterm Exams:

There will be two midterm exams, tentatively scheduled for: Wednesday, Feb 13 Friday, April 4. Midterm 1 will cover Chapters 6 and 7. Midterm 2 will cover Chapters 8 and 9.## Final Exam:

Thursday, May 1, from 10:30-12:30. The final exam will be comprehensive.## Quality of Work:

Anything that you submit should be neat, legible, and clearly written. Solutions to problems should always include sufficient justification. You must show enough of your work so that a reasonable person with average knowledge of the material could logically follow and be convinced by your argument.## Grading:

The following scale is a guideline for assignment of letter grades. The final grading scale will be no stricter.

## Calculators:

You are welcome to use a calculator as you see fit. I encourage you to learn to use it in an effective manner. However, your calculator will not be able to pass this class for you.Use of cell phones, laptop computers, or other comparable devices will not be allowed during quizzes and exams.
