The final is Monday, December 15 from 1-3pm in the usual classroom. The final is mandatory. The final is comprehensive, it will cover everything we have covered this semester, which is Chapters 1 and 4-6 of the text. You may bring one letter sized sheet of paper with notes, and you may use a calculator.

Math ACT score of 23 or grade of C or better in MATH 1010. Students who have registered for the class without having the proper prerequisites may be dropped. A Math placement exam is available through the Testing Center (in the Student Services Building, Room 498) for students who are not satisfied with their placement.## Text:

## Course:

The course will cover chapters 1 and 4-6 of the text.## Technology:

You will need to have internet access and a working email address for this class. There is a computer lab in T. Benny Rushing Mathematics Student Center which you may use. In addition to the course web page, you will find course content in two other places:Blackboard Vista (formerly WebCT) has course resources like quiz and exam solutions and allows you to view your scores and class averages for quizzes and exams.

Homework assignments will use WeBWorK.

You are responsible for monitoring your email and the course website, as well as the WeBWorK page and the Blackboard Vista page.

## Homework:

For technical information consult the WeBWorK help page. You will log in to WeBWorK to get the problems and enter your solutions. Particularly if you are working in a computer lab, you may wish to print out the assignment and work on it at home, and then enter your solutions at a later time. When you submit a solution the program will tell you whether or not your solution is correct. If your solution is not correct you may try again as many times as necessary until you correctly solve the problem. An assignment will be considered completed when you correctly solve 100 points worth of problems. You will not receive any additional credit for completing more than 100 points. If you complete less than 100 points then the assignment has not been completed and you will receive a 0.You may continue working on a problem set up until the appointed due date and time. After that time you will no longer be able to submit solutions for credit. Assignments will be posted well in advance of the due dates, and you are encouraged to work ahead. Do not wait until the due date to do the homework! Under no circumstances will late homework assignments be accepted.

There will be two different types of assignments, and in a typical week there will be one of each type due.

### Prep Assignments:

Prep Assignments will be**due Mondays at noon**. These assignments will cover material to be discussed in class in the upcoming week, so you will need to read a week ahead in the text to answer these questions. I suggest you complete the Prep Assignment the Friday before it is due so that if there are problems you do not know how to do you have time to seek help.

### Review Assignments:

Review Assignments will be**due Wednesdays at 3PM**. These assignments will cover material discussed in class during the prior week, so you will have at least a week after a lecture to complete the problems from that section.

You are encouraged to discuss the homework problems with each other, but everyone must submit their own solutions.

## Quizzes:

Each week there will be a short in-class quiz, exam weeks excepted. No makeup quizzes will be given.## Midterm Exams:

There will be four midterm exams, tentatively scheduled for:Chapter 1: Wednesday, September 10

Chapter 4: Wednesday, October 8

Chapter 5: Wednesday, November 5

Chapter 6: Wednesday, December 3

## Final Exam:

There will be a mandatory Final Exam on Monday, December 15 from 1-3 PM in JWB 335. The final exam will be comprehensive.## Quality and Quantity of Work:

You are expected to conduct yourself in a professional manner. This includes classroom etiquette, email correspondence, and written submissions (homeworks, quizzes and exams).Anything that you submit should be neat, legible, and clearly written. Solutions to problems should always include sufficient justification. You must show enough work and/or give enough of an explanation that someone else could read, understand, and be convinced by your solution.

You should plan to spend six hours per week studying and doing homework for this class, in addition to the two hours of lecture.

## Calculators:

In general you will be allowed to use a calculator, although they may be prohibited for a few quizzes. I encourage you to learn to use the calculator in an effective manner. However, your calculator will not be able to pass this class for you.Use of cell phones, laptop computers, or other comparable devices will not be allowed during quizzes and exams.
