Courts and Shadows

Many of the characters in Shards will want to have a Court of Power surrounding the shadow which holds the source of their power. Or they may want to make that shadow their own personal property. Here's how to buy it.

Primal Plane (4) Any shadow containing a source of power is automatically a Primal Plane. Buying the shadow gives you control to access of the source, either buy military or magical power. This does NOT give you a Court - see below.

Court of Power - House Support (3) An empowered group of people cabable of tapping the power source, and moving through shadow. Taken at the three point level, you are considered a member in good standing in the Court. You will be allowed access to the power source upon request, and can expect your relatives to support you against a common threat. This doesn't mean they will risk their lives out in shadow for your benefit. It also doesn't mean you won't catch hell if you bring your court to the attention of a hostile power, or pledge your court to a course of action.

Devotee of a Court (3) This indicates someone at the court takes a special interest in your well being and will be willing to go to enourmous lengths for you.

Court of Power - Black Sheep (0) There is still a Court of Power, but you are only tolerated at best. You will be encouraged to leave as soon as possible, and would have to provide good reason to access the source of power.

Shadow of a Realm (2) If you want to be in the Black Zone or Golden circle, you have to pay for that in addition to being a primal plane.

Example: You want to be a shadow of Oberon, still in control of a Broken Pattern Shadow near Amber. It would cost:

Primal Plane (4)
Court of Power - House Support (3)
Shadow of a Realm (2)
Total 9 points minimum.
And that doesn't mean your Court of Power will be loyaly obedient. You should probably add a devotee or three who really want to serve your will.

One last piece of advice on Courts and Shadows. It is possible for you an ally to die or your shadow to be conquered. Primal Planes with sources of power are prime real estate. Guard them well.
