Text: Topology, by James Munkres

Course description: This course is an introduction to topology. In the first semester we will concentrate on point set topology with a particular focus on metric topology. The course will be rigorous and proof based. It is essential for anyone planning to study pure math in graduate school.

Homework: Homework will be bi-weekly and will generally be due on Wednesdays. Doing homework is essential to learning the material. I will grade a some, but not all, of the problems.

Final: The final is on December 15th from 10:30 AM ā€“ 12:30 PM. The exam will be cumulative but it will be weighted towards material that is not covered on the midterm.

Grades: Your final grade will be weighted as follows: 30% homework, 30% midterm, 40% final.

Students with disabilities may contact the instructor at the beginning of the semester to discuss special accommodations for the course.
