Mini-Project Information

The mini-projects should be a creative and interesting way to view and utilize the concepts from class. Consequently, few restrictions will be placed on the presentation of the mini-projects. However, if the writing is illegible it will no doubt affect the quality of the project.

In the spirit of keeping these projects mini, if the traditional 8 1/2" x 11" paper is used, no more than 3 pages is suggested.

These projects may be done individually or in pairs.

You will have approximately one week for each mini-project.

A late mini-project will be docked 5% of the final grade for each day (including weekend days) that it is late.

Since this is a mathematics class, the work outlined in the individual mini-projects will need to be shown. It should be worked into the flow of the story which you are telling. Your textbook is an excellent example of how words, math, diagrams and tables can be interwoven in a manner which makes sense. Mathematical formulas and diagrams may be neatly written in by hand.

Each mini-project will require gathering of outside information. Footnoting or endnoting this information is acceptable referencing.

Grading will follow the basic outline:

Mechanics:
(2 points) Spelling and grammar; references cited correctly
Mathematics and Analysis:
(8 points) Correct use of mathematical concepts; math concepts accurately described and explained; calculations correct; appropriate use of models and reasoning; logical reasoning in presenting arguments and making conclusions.
Clarity and Presentation:
(5 points) Thoughtful approach to the project; organization of ideas; clarity of discussion.
Creativity and Originality:
(5 points) How well you used your own ideas in your analysis, depth of analysis.
