Here are the statistics for Exam 1:
There were 86 points possible (I added 6 points to Problem 4), but I graded it out of 80 (the added points are essentially extra
credit)
Class average 63/80 ~ 79%.
Median 70/80 ~ 87%. Half the class scored above 87%!!!
High score 82/80 ~ 103%.
An A is 72/80; 6 people earned an A.
Here are the statistics for Exam 2:
There were 100 points possible.
Class average 75%.
Median 81%. Half the class earned between B- and A.
High score 98%.
14 people took the exam; 3 people scored above 90%.
(30 March, 2006)
Problems 157 -- 160 will be graded as Extra Credit.
(5 March, 2006)
I have added a homework problem to be turned in with Homework 7. Don't worry, it isn't too difficult and should
be somewhat enjoyable. Also DELETE Problem 153 from HW 8. We won't do this problem. I have made other changes to the future
homework assignments as well. I expect that I will make at least one more change later, but I haven't yet decided what it will be.
(2 March, 2006)
Exam 2 is next Thursday (March 9). You will be allowed one page of notes (front and back). I will hold a review
for the exam immediately after class on Tuesday (March 7). The exam will cover Chapters 15 and 16, with a bit of
material from Section 14.7 as well.
Homework 6 is due next Tuesday (March 7).
(23 February, 2006)
Homework 5 is extended until Tuesday, February 28, 2006.
(6 February, 2006)
It is clear that many of you need to study up on the Dot Product a bit more. Here are some recommended problems from your textbook (most
are odd, so the answers should be in the back):
13.3: 1, 7, 13, 15, 17, 27, 28.
14.2: 5, 20, 23, 35.
(2 February, 2006)
Exam 1 is postponed one class day. It will be held on February 14, 2006. The exam will cover all of the material up through Second-Order
Partial Derivatives. It will NOT cover Partial Differential Equations. On Thursday, February 9, we will discuss Partial Differential
Equations. Afterwards, we can review for the exam. I don't mind staying late for this review if people are interested.
No change is being made on the due date for Homework 4. It is still due on Thursday, February 16. This gives you two weeks to complete this assignment. However, you should try to get it done early as some of the material on that assignment will be covered on the exam!
(9 January, 2006)
I added a problem to the homework, and made a few small corrections. If you downloaded the homework packet before Monday afternoon, you
probably have an out-of-date copy. The current version has a total of 211 problems.
If you are not registered for the course, but would like to be, show up tomorrow and I will let you add.
(26 January, 2006)
Problems 41 through 45 may be turned in next Tuesday, January 31, 2006. The
Extra Credit problems may be turned in next Thursday, February 2, 2006.
