This course is for students needing an understanding of elementary algebra.
Topics covered: properties of real numbers, variables, operations with algebraic expressions, factoring,
solving linear equations, and graphing linear equations and inequalities.

Coverage

1 The Real Number System

2 Fundamentals of Algebra

3 Linear Equations and Problem Solving

4 Graphs and Functions

5 Exponents and Polynomials

6 Factoring and Solving Equations

Method

The course content will be covered by lectures and examples which closely follow the text.  Assignments will be given on each section. I will check each day to see if the assignment has been completed. Your grade will be based on 4 one hour tests and the final exam, which is comprehensive. Each test will count 20%, and the final will also count 20%. If you are unable to be present for a test, prior arrangements must be made; otherwise your score will be reduced by 10%. No test score will be dropped. If you have completed all your homework, two points will be added to your final average at the end of the semester.

Grading

The grading scheme is as follows:

A at least 90%

B at least 80%

C at least 70%

D at least 60%

The +/- scores will be awarded at the fringes of these intervals.
