NCSA Mosaic Bug & Comment List

(If you're reading this document because you're getting really frustrated about something in NCSA Mosaic, be sure and check to see if a new version has come out since you last installed yours.)

Bugs and Features In Progress

Zap pointer into dialog windows.
Equate port 80 for http, port 70 for gopher, etc. in HTParse or somewhere. (supposed to be in libwww2).
Coredump (memory corruption) resizing Larry HDF file page (with image, palette, etc.).
Format/viewer pairs. (libwww2)
Use fork/exec on viewers. (libwww2)
Lock history/hotlist/annotation log files?
Timezones in annotations, dates, etc.
Handle failure to establish DTM connection better.
Playback audio annotation option.
Make audio annotations always in .au.
Switch from text to textfield widgets wherever possible.

Widget Stuff

These are bugs/features slated to be fixed/ready shortly after 1.0.

Support <dfn>: WORKING.
Italic/bold/typewriter fonts don't line up with normal font baseline always correctly.: WORKING.
Problem with annotation not containing trailing newline, widget screwing up.: WORKING.
Always use 80 character window width for purposes of printing and saving the current document (including for PostScript?).: WORKING.

Deferred and Future

These are bugs/features slated to NOT be fixed/ready for 1.0, unless somebody swamps us with money and asks us to do them sooner.

HTML widget is asked to convert anchor to position before it knows what its width is...: DEFERRED.
Pick up new WWW library.: DEFERRED.
Native WAIS support.: DEFERRED (post WWW2-library).
FTP is really really slow now -- gotta fix the original bug.: DEFERRED (post WWW2-library).
Multimedia stuff in general needs to be redone.: DEFERRED.
Deleting an annotation should remove the corresponding URL from the global history (more to the point, annotation URL's should be unique).: DEFERRED.
Provide function to clear anchors in current page from history.: DEFERRED.
Provide function to clear current document from history.: DEFERRED.
Allow on the fly specification of news server.: DEFERRED.
Mosaic icon.: DEFERRED.
Nonblocking I/O and user interface to same.: DEFERRED (WWW2 should buy us that).
Enhance performance of including file in annotation, editing large annotation, etc.: DEFERRED (performance).
If title changes during reload, history entries et al not updated.: DEFERRED (rare, plus will be fixed in unified history tracking mechanism).
Don't use strcat() in widget.: DEFERRED (performance).
Black scrollbars in annotate & document source windows, on IBM's only.: DEFERRED; grrrrrrr... Xm library bug.
Go back to using gadgets where possible; twin appropriate Xmx routines to allow arbitrary selection of widgets or gadgets -- startup time is increasing.: DEFERRED -- performance; not too bad.
'Where you can go' listing should have titles where possible (??).: DEFERRED.
Sort directory and ftp directory listings alphabetically.: DEFERRED; post-WWW2.
Anchors displayed in other windows don't change colors when corresponding documents are visited.: DEFERRED (necessary? how to do it and not kill performance? it's possible now, but I still don't know about the performance part...)
Graphical icons inlined in text for gopher, wais, etc. links.: DEFERRED; chrome.
