This REU runs during the academic year. 1-2 math majors and 1-2 biology majors work together in an interdisciplinary group. Lab work and modeling are usually involved.

Shenandoah Undergraduate Mathematics and Statistics (SUMS) Conference

The SUMS Conference is a one-day undergraduate research conference that will feature undergraduate speakers, a poster session, two invited speakers, and panel sessions. Registration and lunch are free. Limited travel funds are available.

The Conference will give outstanding undergraduate women the opportunity to discuss their own research and to meet other women who share their interest in the mathematical sciences. Participants will also have a chance to learn about life in graduate school from the perspective of current women graduate students representing math departments from across the country.

The conference is attended by students and faculty from various universities and colleges primarily in Indiana and its surrounding states, but also from other states and countries. The conference features 20 minute talks by students in addition to three longer addresses by invited speakers. Undergraduate students at all levels are invited to discuss their independent work in any area associated with mathematics, its applications, history, philosophy, or pedagogy.
