Frequently Asked Questions & Resources

Food
  1. What food is available on-campus?

Go to the campus map (http://www.map.utah.edu/). On the left hand side there is a category for 'Food Venues'.
Housing
  1. Do the dorm rooms have internet access?

You will receive a wireless account login in your check-in packet. This account will be viable across campus.

  2. Will I have access to a kitchen?

Most likely not. Do not count on being able to use a stove or refrigerator.
  3. What linens are provided?

You will get 1 fitted sheet, 1 flat sheet, 1 pillow, 1 pillow case, 2 blankets, and a small towel. Used towels can be traded for fresh ones at the Hertitage Center (building 815) front desk.

  4. Will I have access to a gym?

You may use the University's recreation facilities if you purchase a "Workshop Pass" from the Campus Recreation department (building 29). Bring a form and a letter from your check-in pack to building 29 to purchase the pass.
Reimbursement
  1. What sort of expenses are elligible for reimbursement?

Any travel expenses are fit to reimburse: airfare, taxi/shuttle fares, train fares, parking, etc.

  2. Do I need to save receipts from food expenses?

No. If you have travel allowance left, you will be reimbursed for per diem, a daily meal allowance. The only documentation required for per diem is something proving your time in Salt Lake City - a plane ticket illustrates this perfectly.

  3. What do I need to do to be reimbursed?

See Daniela as soon as possible. Bring any original receipts you have (If you are flying on an E-ticket, forward the confirmation/receipt to dciubo@math.utah.edu.).

  4. When will I receive my reimbursement check?

This is unpredictable. Your paperwork has to travel through several different administrative offices of the university before a check is issued. It can take anywhere from 1-5 weeks.

  5. How will I get my check?

If your check arrives during the course, Kathleen will deliver it to you. If it arrives after the course, it will be mailed to you.

  6. Can I be reimbursed for frequent flyer miles I used to purchase my airfare?

No. This is not possible. Do not use any vouchers, frequent flyer miles, or gift certificates when purchasing your travel. Save these for personal travel.

  1. Which airport should I use?

Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC):

  3. The dorms seem expensive. Are there any alternatives?

If you wish to pursue alternative housing, you are on your own to arrange it. The best spots to look for short-term apartments/houses are: The City Weekly's classified ads, The Daily Utah Chronicle's classified ads, and craigslist.

  4. Can I be reimbursed for frequent flyer miles I used to purchase my airfare?

No. This is not possible. Do not use any vouchers, frequent flyer miles, or gift certificates when purchasing your travel. Save these for personal travel.
