"Nanoscale Transport in Chemical Analysis"
November 10

Abstract: Significant recent advances in analytical chemistry and molecular biology have led to an entire new class of chemical sensors based on transport in nanopores. These sensors show remarkable sensitivity (single molecule) and specificity, and are projected as portable biomolecule sensors in fighting terrorism and in ultra-trace analyses. In this lecture, I will present an overview of our recent investigations of two nanopore-based methodologies: (1) the stochastic detection of nanoparticles by electrophoretic capture and release at the mouth of a membrane pore, and (2) the glass nanopore electrode.
