Neuromechanical mechanisms of coordinated locomotion in "model" systems

Abstract: A fundamental challenge in neuroscience is to understand how biologically salient motor behavior, such as locomotion, emerges from the properties of the underlying neural circuits and body mechanics. In this talk, I will show how neuromechanical modeling and coupled-oscillator theory can be used to dissect out the mechanisms underlying (i) limb coordination in the crayfish swimmeret system and (ii) gait adaptation in C. elegans.
