University of Utah LaTeX thesis styles

This is the master archive site for the definitive versions of University of Utah thesis styles for LaTeX.

This directory tree contains thesis styles for LaTeX 2.09 and 2e to support production of undergraduate and graduate theses and dissertations that conform to the strict formatting requirements of the University of Utah.

Under no circumstances should these style files be changed by student authors. Instead, create a private style file with your own definitions and extensions that is loaded after the main style file with an \input{} (2.09) or \usepackage{} (2e) command. Any changes that your private style file makes to standard macros are your own responsibility.

If you have style files of the same names as found in this tree, but with different contents, then they are suspect, and very likely, invalid. To allow checking of your local files against the master archive, here are MD5 checksums of the class and style files in this tree:

WARNING: LaTeX 2.09 has been obsolete since the publication in 1994 of the second edition of Leslie Lamport's LaTeX: A Document Preparation System: User's Guide and Reference Manual and The LaTeX Companion. In 2004, a highly-recommended second edition of the latter appeared. The old 2.09 styles are preserved for historical interest only; all new theses must use the new 2e styles.

It is recommended that you fetch and unpack one of the archive files in .jar, .tar.bz2, .tar.gz, or .zip format, rather than fetching individual files. That way, you will be sure to have everything, and the important file timestamps will be preserved.

Each of the archive files is digitally signed with a detached .sig signature file. You can verify the authenticity of the archive with either pgp or gpg like this:
