*********************************************** *********************************************** *********************************************** *** *** *** BIBLIOGRAPHY ARCHIVES LICENSE STATEMENT *** *** *** *** 31 January 2006 *** *** *** *** Version 1.00 *** *** *** *********************************************** *********************************************** *********************************************** The bibliographies in the TeX User Group bibliography archive ftp://ftp.math.utah.edu/pub/tex/bib/ http://www.math.utah.edu/pub/tex/bib/index-table.html and the bibliographies in the BibNet Project bibliography archive ftp://ftp.math.utah.edu/pub/bibnet/ http://www.math.utah.edu/pub/bibnet/ with file extensions .awk .bib .dvi .html .ltx .pdf .pdf.gz .ps .ps.gz .sok .twx and the accompanying file Makefile are considered to be PUBLIC DOMAIN information. One important mirror of these two archives is the huge Karlsruhe Computer Science bibliography archive at http://liinwww.ira.uka.de/bibliography/index.html ------------------------------------------------------------------------ All of this data has been developed primarily by a single individual: Nelson H. F. Beebe University of Utah Department of Mathematics, 110 LCB 155 S 1400 E RM 233 Salt Lake City, UT 84112-0090 USA Email: beebe@math.utah.edu, beebe@acm.org, beebe@computer.org (Internet) WWW URL: http://www.math.utah.edu/~beebe Telephone: +1 801 581 5254 FAX: +1 801 581 4148 He wrote this license file, and continues to maintain and develop these resources for the benefit of the worldwide Internet community. In some cases, bibliographies credit multiple authors in their comment headers; in those cases, none but the above-named are currently active in maintaining them. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ From early 2006, new entries, and updates to, these archives are expected to carry an internal comment in the .bib and .ltx files of the form %%% license = "PUBLIC DOMAIN", However, because there are more than 1000 such files in these archives, and because their file times are a critical external record of their last content updates that guide the selection of bibliographies for updating, I will not retrofit such license comments into older files until they are next updated. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Each BibTeX and LaTeX file contains a comment header with a version number, timestamp, author name and address, file checksum, and other information about the bibliography. Every humanly-reasonable effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of the data, which are checked for spelling errors, capitalization errors, natural language errors, punctuation errors, typographical errors, doubled-word errors, and delimiter balance errors. All detected errors have been corrected, except for discrepancies that cannot be resolved without access to either original journal data, or additional bibliographic data. In such cases, BibTeX entries may contain keys with the prefix xx (e.g., title and xxtitle) indicating an alternate value. Where possible, data are collected from as many (quasi-)reliable sources as can be found, and merged to detect discrepancies. The prime sources of most of the recent journal article data are publisher Web sites, but sadly, even these are not as reliable as one could hope. The American Mathematical Society (AMS) and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) deserve special recognition for the care in which they create Web data for their journals, and in the case of the AMS, record reviewed mathematical publications in their MathSciNet database.
