Welcome to the University of Utah's Masters in Statistics (MStat) program!
In this inter-departmental, inter-disciplinary program, students are offered the two-pronged opportunity of learning the latest statistical theory from mathematical statisticians and probabilitists, as well as grounding themselves thoroughly in applications of statistics in areas including biostatistics/health services research, business, econometrics, educational psychology, mathematics, and sociology. Students round out their training with a capstone class and by performing one to two Masters-level projects, which will demonstrate their capabilities to potential employers.
The faculty of the MStat. program bring diverse interests and experiences to their classrooms. Although we all come from different departments, we are dedicated to the M. Stat. program and work to make it a success. We are available to talk to and work with students to create a wonderful learning environment. We also work to provide MStat students with opportunities to meet with potential employers both during their time in the program and after they've graduated.
In the 2007-8 academic year, the MStat program is going through many changes. They include, but aren't limited to: a new and improved website, the development of a Student Statistical Society, and more social opportunities for meeting each other and potential employers.
The university setting, close to the Wasatch Mountains, provides an attractive and healthy environment in which to study. Salt Lake City is a cultural center amid the vast distances of the American west, and it is a stepping-off point to the unspeakable splendor of the canyons, deserts, rivers, mountains and ski areas of the intermountain west.
The program faculty look forward to meeting you!
Sincerely,
Anne Cook
