Read chapter 1 of the text and work out all of the examples in it at a computer.
Problems to do on your own: 1, 4, 7, 9
Problems for class discussion: 2, 3, 11
Problems to hand in: 5, 6, 8, 10
Problems which are handed in should be written up in a clear and concise style. The goal should be a readable paper. Computer printouts by themselves do not do this. If your work is messy or unclear, I may ask you to redo it.
